Area Chairman’s Letter – August 2023

At last it seems we have got Summer back with some lovely warm days so the we can enjoy our gardens. The Area Officers have been busy organising events and other things to help the Area Clubs.

You may remember the Celia Thompson our excellent Area Treasurer has been trying to organise an Area Umbrella Insurance Policy so that the Area pays for an all risk policy for all Clubs and Club activities and also for all Area demonstrators, teachers, speakers and judges. At last she has succeeded and at our next Council Meeting on 18th September she will explain the details. It will take effect from 1st January and it our wish that this benefit to all Clubs will continue in the future. It will be at a cost to the Area not Clubs or members. Well done to Celia, as she has worked very hard to organise this

The Officer’s have also organised some new publicity for our Area and Clubs. We have had printed a 3-fold leaflet with details of all our NAFAS activities, Clubs and benefits for members. All Clubs will receive some to use for publicity to encourage new members and inform people about NAFAS. There is room for you to add the details of your own Club. These will be available at the Council meeting.

Area News will now be on line on our website. Suzanne Boet, the editor of the Area news would like some articles to include in her next edition. Please send her any news from your Club or anything of interest to members who love flowers, gardens, shows or even places to visit.

I am attaching the details of A Special Area Day on 3rd October, to be held in Wheathampstead. The day will be full of activities relating to floral art where all members have to chance to learn more about the Principles and Elements of Design from several experienced tutors who will teach you how they relate to our arrangements, demonstrating and competitions. This is a day for all members, demonstrators, judges, teachers and speaker. I am sure you will learn a lot and enjoy the various activities. Please think about coming as I am sure it will be a great day.

Our AGM, Lunch and Demonstration is on 22nd November and I am attaching all the details. Please encourage your members to come for an interesting and entertaining Area day. Tracey Griffin will give a seasonal demonstration and we will have a seated buffet at our usual round tables – with a seating plan.  Tickets are £35   ( cheaper than last year) and available from Celia Thompson as usual.

We would like to appoint a new Area Education Representative to replace our friend Janice Swan. I am attaching a Role Description so that if you can encourage any suitable candidates the Officers would be very grateful.

With my very best wishes,

Chairman of Home Counties Area of NAFAS
