The Area holds regular competitive shows and also exhibits at the annual Hertfordshire County Show. We also take part in events at Hatfield House where we showcase our flower arranging skills
About Us
The Home Counties Area, originally part of the London and Overseas Area, was formed in 1960 and covers Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and parts of Essex and Middlesex. Founder members included Sheila McQueen, Anita Seago and Dorothy Marriott. There are currently over forty clubs in the Area which usually meet monthly. Members and visitors can watch floral demonstrations, try hands-on flower arranging in workshops and listen to speakers.
The first Area ‘Flower Exhibition’ was held at the Chenil Galleries, Chelsea, in September 1961. It was opened by Julia Clements and the Silver Challenge Cup was won by St Albans Flower Arrangement Group.

In the UK there are hundreds of flower clubs meeting regularly where those with a love of flowers can join together to pursue their interest. Some members enjoy arranging flowers in their homes and maybe as gifts for friends; some arrange flowers in their local church.
We also have members who are passionate flower arrangers and love to show their skills demonstrating at clubs and competing at flower shows. Many club members just like to come and watch and be entertained.
Some meetings will have a floral art demonstration by a qualified NAFAS demonstrator using a variety of flowers, foliage and accessories to create interesting and innovative designs. On other occasions there may be a work shop where all club members come together to practise flower arranging, often under the guidance of a teacher or perhaps an experienced club member.
Clubs often arrange coach visits to places of interest and other social occasions, such as garden parties or Christmas lunches. Visitors are always welcome to normal club meetings. So if you want to make new friends, perhaps start a new hobby or just want somewhere to go for a pleasant and entertaining afternoon or evening, a visit to your nearest flower club could be just the thing for you!
